Genesys International Corporation has won a ₹283 crore World Bank-funded contract to build a 3D digital twin and spatial intelligence platform for Ahmedabad, in what the company describes as one of India’s largest city-scale digital twin initiatives.

The project will digitally map approximately 625 sq km of Ahmedabad and 25 lakh properties, creating a unified GIS platform covering land parcels, properties, roads, and critical civic infrastructure, including water, sewerage, and stormwater networks.

The initiative is part of the Gujarat Resilient Cities Partnership programme and is aimed at strengthening urban planning, infrastructure management, and civic service delivery.

The project is expected to take two and a half years to complete, followed by five years of operations and maintenance.

As part of the project, around 25 lakh properties will be surveyed, geocoded, and assigned unique digital identities.

Genesys will also develop an elevation model using orthophotography and establish 40 primary and 200 secondary survey control points to improve the accuracy of the city's spatial database.

The platform will bring property-level information and city infrastructure onto a common digital foundation, allowing municipal departments to access and work with the same spatial data.

A significant component of the project will be mapping Ahmedabad's underground civic infrastructure.

Existing water supply, sewerage, stormwater drainage, and cable networks will be surveyed and mapped, including their location and depth. The information will then be integrated into the central GIS database.

This could give civic agencies a unified view of both above-ground and underground infrastructure, potentially helping coordinate infrastructure projects, maintenance, and future urban development.

The Ahmedabad project expands Genesys' work in city-scale 3D mapping, combining surveying, GIS, artificial intelligence, and spatial data to create digital representations of urban environments.

Sajid Malik, Chairman and Managing Director, Genesys International, said the project goes beyond conventional digital mapping.

“Ahmedabad—like most Indian cities—is entering an important phase in its urban development, and the ability to understand the city as a connected, three-dimensional digital environment will be increasingly important. This project is not simply about a digital map; it is about building a high-precision digital representation of the city that brings together land, properties, roads, utilities and underground infrastructure on a common spatially intelligent platform,” he said.

This marks the beginning of using physical AI systems in urgent governance delivery.

The company said the resulting spatial intelligence platform could eventually support applications spanning infrastructure planning, utility management, property administration, mobility, disaster preparedness, and civic services.

For Ahmedabad, the project effectively creates a digital layer over the physical city—from individual properties and roads to infrastructure buried underground—that government agencies can use as a common reference for urban planning and delivery.
