Google is expanding Gemini integration for Chrome to additional regions, including India, Canada, and New Zealand.
The rollout will allow users to access Gemini via a sidebar in Chrome on desktop. This feature enables users to ask Google’s AI chatbot questions about the content displayed on their screen, retrieve information from Gmail, Keep, Drive, and YouTube, and compare the contents of multiple tabs.
As part of the expansion, Gemini will also support several additional languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil, alongside English and other newly supported Chrome languages.
Google first introduced Gemini in Chrome in the United States last September through a floating window. Earlier this year, the company launched sidebar-based Gemini tools.
Users who receive the feature will notice an “Ask Gemini” icon in the tab bar. They can activate it on any tab to ask questions, summarise content or even create a quiz to better understand a topic. Google said Gemini can also work across multiple tabs, allowing users to reference several pages simultaneously. This can be particularly useful when comparing products while shopping or reviewing ticket options for a trip.
Gemini can also connect with a range of Google services to provide more personalised responses. It integrates with Gmail, Maps, Calendar, YouTube, and other Google apps to deliver contextual information. For example, users can compose an email directly within the Gemini sidebar in Chrome and send it without leaving the page. They can also ask Gemini to summarise a YouTube video and highlight the key points with timestamp markers. The assistant can additionally schedule meetings or provide a summary of the day’s agenda.
Users can also access Google’s Nano Banana 2 generative AI tool through Gemini in Chrome to modify images. For instance, someone shopping for furniture could upload a photo of their room and ask Gemini to transform the image to visualise how a particular item might look in the space.
Google said that, alongside the desktop rollout, it is also introducing Gemini support in Chrome for iOS in India. When available, the feature will appear in the address bar via a page tools icon.
In January, Google introduced enhanced agentic capabilities that allow Gemini to take control of the browser and complete tasks on a user’s behalf for AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the United States. However, the company said these capabilities will not be included in the latest expansion to users in India, New Zealand, and Canada.
