Positioning technology as the backbone of future trade, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently launched the India–US Trade Facilitation Portal, a digital platform designed to directly connect Indian exporters with American buyers, reduce regulatory friction, and expand market access for MSMEs and services firms.
The platform, conceptualised by the Consulate General of India in New York in collaboration with Indian diplomatic missions, aims to serve as a single-window interface to help exporters navigate US market requirements while enabling direct business discovery.
“Technology is the bridge building trust and enabling direct engagement between Indian exporters and American importers,” Goyal said virtually during the launch, adding that it would help “close the knowledge gaps on US regulatory and standards requirements.”
The initiative comes as India and the United States push towards a shared ambition of $500 billion in bilateral trade. Goyal noted that “bilateral trade is growing rapidly towards the $500 billion ambition set by both sides,” while stressing that the gains must extend to “MSMES, our farmers, our fishermen” to ensure more inclusive growth.
The government said the portal will play a key role in integrating smaller enterprises into global supply chains by lowering entry barriers and reducing dependence on intermediaries.
“From MSMEs to startups and first-time exporters, we are ensuring that no Indian enterprise is too small to reach a US buyer,” he said.
Describing the platform as “the runway to the United States of America,” Goyal said it would unlock “all-round development, growth, local empowerment and global opportunities,” spanning sectors from agriculture and handicrafts to software services and pharmaceuticals.
Industry body Nasscom welcomed the launch, calling it “a meaningful step toward Mission 500,” and said it would enable “direct connections between Indian exporters and US importers, reinforcing supply chains in one of India's most critical trade corridors.”
For India’s technology sector, particularly SMEs, the platform “opens a genuine pathway to the US market” by enabling direct market access without intermediaries, NASSCOM said, adding it would work closely with the government to ensure the portal delivers “real impact for Indian industry.”
