Microsoft’s push to embed generative AI into enterprise workflows is gathering pace in India, with Infosys, TCS and Wipro collectively scaling Microsoft 365 Copilot deployments to more than 3,00,000 employees, indicating how large IT services firms are moving AI adoption beyond pilot programmes.
The latest expansion marks a significant jump from December last year, when Microsoft had announced that Infosys, TCS, Wipro and Cognizant would together deploy more than 200,000 Copilot licences, with each company committing to over 50,000 seats.
According to Microsoft, Infosys, TCS, and Wipro have each crossed the 100,000-user mark for Microsoft 365 Copilot.
The announcement comes as Indian IT services firms increasingly position themselves as large scale adopters of AI even as they build solutions for global clients.
“This is the shift we are seeing with our most ambitious customers: moving from experimenting with AI to building their businesses around it,” Puneet Chandok, President, Microsoft India and South Asia, said. “The best AI deployments translate an organisation’s own intelligence into decisions that reshape customer engagement, business processes and growth — and global IT majors are doing exactly that with Microsoft.”
Infosys said its plan to deploy Copilot to more than 100,000 employees across delivery, engineering and corporate functions has resulted in monthly active usage exceeding 91%. The Bengaluru headquartered company has integrated the tool into its broader Infosys Topaz AI strategy aimed at embedding AI into internal workflows and client engagements.
“The real opportunity with AI lies in how deeply it is embedded into everyday work,” Salil Parekh, CEO and MD, Infosys, said. “We are focused on operationalising this at scale with Infosys Topaz – integrating AI across our workflows to enhance enterprise effectiveness and strengthen our ability to unlock AI value for our clients,” he added.
TCS said it has enabled more than 100,000 associates with Microsoft 365 Copilot, using the technology across reporting, meeting management, documentation, analysis and other knowledge intensive tasks. The company said the deployment forms part of its effort to build an AI-first culture and shape the Human + AI operating model of the future.
Wipro is driving an AI-first transformation, deploying AI at scale across its own operations and global clients through Wipro Intelligence, a unified suite of AI-powered platforms. The company said it has reached over 95% monthly active usage of Microsoft 365 Copilot, with associates generating 7.5 million prompts each month and averaging 23 actions per user per week.
The milestone highlights India's growing importance in Microsoft's AI strategy. Chandok recently said India is among the fastest growing markets for Copilot adoption globally, with enterprises increasingly moving from experimentation to production deployments.
Microsoft has been investing heavily in AI infrastructure in India. Recently, the tech giant said it is launching its largest domestic facility in Hyderabad, backed by a $17.5 billion infrastructure commitment.
