Infosys plans to hire at least 20,000 freshers in FY27, maintaining last year’s pace even as overall headcount declined sequentially in Q4.

CFO Jayesh Sanghrajka says they hired over 20,000 freshers last year and expects to hire at least that many again this year.

The hiring push comes despite a drop of over 8,000 employees in the March quarter. On a full-year basis, however, headcount still increased by around 5,000.

Management attributed the quarterly decline to softer demand and utilisation dynamics rather than structural cuts.

“Headcount is a function of demand and supply equation. The volumes are softer,” Sanghrajka said, adding that the company does not see a continuous decline in workforce.

The data reflects a broader trend across the IT sector, where companies are balancing fresher hiring with tighter control on lateral recruitment amid uncertain demand.

Infosys has not yet finalised wage hikes for FY27. Meanwhile, companies are continuing campus intake to build future capacity, while adjusting overall workforce in line with near-term demand.

As AI-led delivery models evolve, the type of talent required is changing, with greater emphasis on digital and AI skills even at entry levels.

Infosys ended FY26 with a milestone and a warning in the same breath. Revenue crossed $20 billion for the first time ever, but the company guided for just 1.5%-3.5% growth in constant currency for FY27, underscoring a cautious demand environment even as AI-led deals pick up.

For the March quarter, Infosys reported revenue of ₹46,402 crore, up 13.4% year-on-year, but down 1.3% sequentially in constant currency terms. Full-year revenue stood at ₹1,78,650 crore, a 9.6% increase, translating to 3.1% growth in constant currency.
