Meta has hired the founders and the entire team of AI startup Dreamer to join its Meta Superintelligence Labs to work on AI agents.
David Singleton, Co-founder of Dreamer, said in a post on X that he, co-founders Hugo Barra and Nicholas Jitkoff, and the full team are joining the unit, adding that the company will license its technology to Meta.
The hires will work on AI agents and related projects within the division led by Meta’s Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang.
Dreamer launched earlier this year as a platform that lets users build AI agents and personal software using natural language.
The startup released a beta about a month ago and saw thousands of users creating tools for tasks such as managing email, planning trips and learning languages, Singleton said.
“They’re building and sharing agents to manage email, calendar, and to-do’s… learn new languages, plan trips with friends… or simply to creatively express themselves,” Singleton wrote.
He said the goal was to let individuals build software suited to their own needs. “People are building things they’ve wanted for years… solving real problems no traditional software company would ever prioritise,” he said.
The entrepreneur added that Dreamer’s early progress helped validate its approach to personal software. “What matters most here isn’t the early momentum; it’s what Dreamer has enabled people to do,” he said.
The move comes as Meta accelerates its investment in AI and reorganises efforts under its Superintelligence Labs division, which was set up in 2025 to build frontier models.
Meta has been hiring aggressively to strengthen its position in AI, including bringing in teams and founders working on agent-based systems. Last year, Meta hired IIT Kanpur alum Trapit Bansal, recruiting him from OpenAI. He was among the 11 AI researchers hired last year, including those from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. He joined alongside Shuchao Bi, who co-developed the voice more for GPT-4o and the o4-mini model.
