Indian space-tech company Pixxel has raised $100 million in Series C funding, in a round co-led by Temasek and Seraphim, as it expands beyond hyperspectral imaging into Earth intelligence software, sovereign space systems and satellite manufacturing.
The round also saw participation from new investors 360 ONE Asset and IMM Investment, along with existing investors including Radical Ventures and growX ventures. The latest fundraise takes Pixxel’s total funding to $195 million and marks the largest funding round raised by an Indian space technology company, according to the company.
Pixxel said the fresh capital will be used to scale four key areas: advanced sensing capabilities, Earth intelligence software, sovereign Earth observation systems and satellite manufacturing.
Awais Ahmed, Founder and CEO of Pixxel, said, “Years ago, we set out to build a health monitor for the planet. Hyperspectral imaging gave us a fundamentally new way to see Earth. This new investment gives us the scale to turn that vision into planetary infrastructure. More ways of sensing, more intelligence from every image, and more sovereign capability for nations. Our goal is to make a changing planet understandable in time to act.”
The company plans to expand its sensing capabilities through its Honeybee Constellation, high-resolution optical imaging satellites and other sensing technologies. It will also continue developing Aurora, its Earth intelligence software platform, which combines multiple datasets to generate decision-ready insights.
Pixxel is also stepping up its focus on sovereign Earth observation systems and satellite manufacturing through Gigapixxel, its next-generation facility aimed at enabling high-rate production of advanced satellites.
The funding comes as Pixxel expands its footprint across the space-tech value chain. The company said it has deployed six Firefly satellites over the past two years, forming what it describes as the world’s highest-resolution commercial hyperspectral constellation. It has also launched Aurora as an Earth intelligence software platform.
Pixxel has secured contracts with NASA and the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), while also winning multiple iDEX challenges from India’s Ministry of Defence. The company has additionally unveiled plans for an orbital data-centre demonstration satellite. It has also been selected to lead the development of India’s first public-private Earth observation constellation, comprising 12 satellites under IN-SPACe.
The company’s expansion comes amid growing interest in Earth observation, AI-powered geospatial intelligence and sovereign space capabilities, as governments and industries increasingly use satellite data for applications ranging from climate monitoring and agriculture to defence and infrastructure planning.
Mark Boggett, CEO at Seraphim Space, said, “Pixxel is exceptionally well-positioned across some of the most important themes shaping the future of the space sector, from AI-powered Earth observation and sovereign space capabilities to the rise of India as a global SpaceTech leader. We're delighted to deepen our support as the company continues to scale.”
With the Series C capital, Pixxel aims to move beyond hyperspectral imaging to build an integrated planetary infrastructure platform spanning sensors, software, sovereign space systems and satellite manufacturing.
