Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has successfully modernised its global payroll operations by transitioning to RISE with SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud, achieving up to 40% faster payroll processing with zero disruption to ongoing operations, SAP announced on May 18.
The transformation consolidates TCS' payroll operations across multiple countries and regions into a unified, cloud-based environment built on SAP S/4HANA Cloud on AWS. The initiative was designed to improve consistency, strengthen operational resilience, and build a scalable digital foundation aligned with the company's long-term technology roadmap.
The phased migration was supported by robust validation frameworks, including multiple mock cycles and parallel payroll execution, embedded throughout the transition to ensure accuracy, regulatory compliance, and operational stability across regions.
The overhaul delivered several measurable improvements. Payroll processing speeds increased by 30-40% through better batch performance and faster cycle completion.
The new architecture also standardises global payroll processing while preserving local flexibility within a single environment to accommodate country-specific regulatory and business requirements. More than 20 high-volume interfaces across HR, finance, and third-party systems were integrated to maintain data integrity and operational stability. The company also gains a future-ready digital core intended to support analytics-led insights and intelligent capabilities aligned with SAP's broader innovation roadmap.
Janardhan Santhanam, Chief Information Officer at TCS, said, “As one of SAP's strategic partners, TCS believes in leading by example. This transformation reflects our commitment to building a cloud-first, digital enterprise core. Executing a modernisation of this scale with minimal disruption demonstrates how global organisations can transform while strengthening agility and resilience.”
The migration also resulted in a more streamlined payroll architecture, reduced fragmentation, and improved visibility across operations—outcomes TCS says will support more data-driven and adaptive workforce management going forward.
Rahul Baheti, India Growth Officer at SAP Indian Subcontinent, said, “This milestone with TCS demonstrates how RISE with SAP can support the most demanding, mission-critical workloads at a global scale—securely, resiliently, and without disruption. It also reflects the strength of a longstanding partnership built on shared innovation and trust, as SAP and TCS continue to collaborate to help enterprises reimagine and modernise core business processes for the future.”
The project was supported by AWS as a hyperscaler partner, highlighting the growing momentum among large enterprises to migrate core business processes to cloud platforms. The SAP–TCS partnership, which spans years of collaborative enterprise technology work, underpins the transformation.
TCS, which generated consolidated revenues of over $30 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2026, employs a highly skilled workforce spread across 56 countries. SAP, listed on the NYSE under the ticker SAP, has provided enterprise application software to organisations worldwide for more than 50 years.
