Slack on August 20 introduced Slack Code, a new feature that lets teams work with AI coding agents inside dedicated code channels. The company said the feature is designed to move AI-assisted software development from individual sessions into a shared workspace where teams can review and direct the work.

Rob Seaman, Salesforce’s EVP and GM for Slack, said, “AI only creates value when it’s part of how a team actually works, not something people go do alone in another tab. Code channels bring that work into the open, where the rest of the team can see it, shape it, and build on it.”

The company said that Slack Code creates project-based code channels where developers and other team members can follow an agent’s work, review code changes and see live previews. Channels can also be created automatically when a user tags a coding agent from an existing conversation, then archived when the task is complete while retaining the record as an audit log, Slack added.

The feature connects with coding agents from Anthropic, Cognition, GitHub, OpenAI and Vercel. Slack said its founding partners include Anthropic’s Claude, Cognition’s Devin, GitHub’s Copilot, OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Vercel’s agents, which can work within the shared team context in Slack.

According to the company, Slack Code gives teams visibility into an agent’s conversation, plan, code diffs and live previews. Team members can provide feedback, pause, redirect or stop an agent, while Slack said high-stakes actions such as pushing code to production require expert sign-off within the channel.

Slack is also expanding its broader agent experience with a new Agents tab where users can browse agents and their sessions, check statuses and stop an agent mid-task. Its Add to Slack feature supports agents from platforms including Lovable, n8n, Vercel, OpenAI and LangChain.

“For companies to unlock the full value from AI, it has to move beyond individual productivity gains to operational transformation. Slack Code enables AI to move beyond individual copilots to embedded, contextual AI orchestration to deliver real AI ROI at scale,” said Rebecca Wettemann of analyst firm Valoir.

Slack said that Slack Code is available on any Slack plan, although customers need access to the individual partner agents. The company added that the pricing and packaging may change, while availability can vary by region and customer agreement.
