Slack has introduced a set of new capabilities to reposition the platform as the central interface for work in enterprises adopting AI agents and distributed systems.

The company announced more than 30 new capabilities as part of the update.

Slackbot is currently available to customers on Business+ and Enterprise+ plans, where administrators can enable the feature in settings. From April, the company will extend access to users on its Free and Pro plans, offering a limited number of conversations to trial the feature, along with options for continued usage.

The new update focuses on Slackbot, which the company describes as an always-on assistant integrated across conversations, files, workflows, and enterprise applications. The goal is to address what it calls a gap between intelligence and action inside organisations.

“The bottleneck isn’t intelligence. It’s shared intelligence,” the company said, adding that most AI systems operate in isolation and fail to reach teams with enough context to drive decisions.

According to Slack, Slackbot now combines AI reasoning with access to organisational data, including channels, history, and workflows. It can perform tasks such as searching, writing, coding, and orchestrating processes across connected tools.

The company said the feature requires no additional installation and operates within existing enterprise permissions.

Less than two months after launch, customers, including Anthropic, Asymbl, Engine, reMarkable, and Wayfair, are already using it.

New updates include meeting transcription and note-taking features that allow Slackbot to act on discussions immediately after calls. The assistant can now operate across desktop workflows, responding to context and taking actions within enterprise applications.

The company also introduced reusable AI skills, allowing teams to define tasks once and apply them automatically. Slackbot can match prompts to these predefined workflows without manual input.

As part of its expansion, Slackbot now functions as an MCP client, enabling it to route tasks across agents and applications, including Agentforce. Employees do not need to identify which system handles a task, as Slackbot manages execution.

For small businesses, Slack is adding built-in customer management capabilities that automatically update contacts, deals, and call notes based on conversations. Larger enterprises using Salesforce can access Customer 360 functions directly through Slackbot, including updating records and triggering workflows.

Slack said the broader objective is to increase output per employee by embedding AI into team workflows rather than individual tools.
