Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), through its subsidiary TSMC Partners Ltd, has sold all its shares in Arm Holdings (primarily owned by the Japanese conglomerate SoftBank Group) on April 28 and 29, according to a company filing seen by AIM.
The sale covered 11,10,784 shares at $207.65 each, with a total transaction value of $231 million.
The company said the disposal was approved internally on April 25. It reported an impact of $174 million on retained earnings. The filing submitted to Taiwan’s Market Observation Post System (MOPS) added that the company now holds no shares in Arm following the transaction.
The filing listed the purpose as “disposal of equity investment”. It stated that no related-party transaction was involved and that there was no relationship with the counterparty.
The company said the transaction represented 0.58% of its total assets and 0.78% of equity attributable to parent company shareholders. It also cited operating cash flow of NT$325,002 million in its most recent financial statements.
Wendell Huang, Senior VP and Chief Financial Officer at TSMC, is listed as the spokesperson in the filing. The filing confirmed that cumulative holdings of Arm shares stand at zero after the sale.
It did not disclose the identity of the counterparty or provide details on prior holdings beyond this transaction.
The disclosure forms part of routine regulatory reporting. The company stated that the information is submitted in line with market regulations and that it bears responsibility for its accuracy.
TSMC bought into Arm at $51 per share during the chip designer’s 2023 initial public offering. It invested around $100 million at the time. The exit price of $207.65 is more than four times the entry price.
This was not TSMC’s first sale of Arm shares. In 2024, the company sold 8,50,000 shares at $119.47 per share, raising approximately $102 million. As of today, Arm shares have fallen 7.98%.
As for Arm, this is not the first time a major company has divested its stake. Early this year, SEC filings revealed that NVIDIA also sold its entire Arm stake in late 2025. The giant sold a similar number of 1.1 million shares valued at roughly $140 million.
The move marked a stark reversal for the chip giant, which five years ago tried to acquire Arm for $40 billion before regulators blocked the deal in 2022. Moreover, according to reports, Arm’s CEO, Rene Haas, sold 9,299 shares on April 14, under a prearranged Rule 10b5-1 trading plan at prices between $160.57 and $163.00 per share.
