India is expected to invest $1 billion in artificial intelligence by 2023, according to a recent report from Project Management Institute (PMI), a Philadelphia-based non-profit organisation. Last year, the Indian government allocated $477 million to boost the country's AI ecosystem. Further, as part of the National Education Policy (NEP), AI will be introduced in school curriculums. Inarguably, India is making bottom-up changes to become an AI superpower.

Below, we take a look at the latest AI courses offered by Indian institutions.

UG and Integrated Masters Programme in Statistics and Data Science, IIT Kanpur

IIT Kanpur announced in May this year that its board has approved a four-year Bachelor Science programme, and a five-year integrated Masters of Science programme in Statistics and Data Science. The course will be offered from the current academic year, 2021-22, by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

The programmes will focus on Computational and Data Science application courses and fundamentals of Statistics and Mathematics. It will allow students to select elective courses from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Electrical Engineering, and is aimed at helping students master Big Data analytics.

The admissions for the programme will be through the Joint Entrance JEE (Advance).
