Tim Cook made some exciting new announcements at the first Apple event of 2022, the virtual Apple Peak Performance Conference 2022.
In line with the iPhone SE range, Cook announced the new iPhone SE powered by Apple’s 15 bionic chip, known for processing intense workloads and depth information with its 6-core CPU. Francesca Sweet, Product Line Manager at Apple, claims the GPU to be 2.2x faster than iPhone 8. In addition, the CPU is 1.8x faster than iPhone 8 and “faster than all the competition at any price”. The chip also comes with a 16-core neural engine, deemed perfect for machine learning tasks given its capacity of 15.8 trillion operations per second. This is 26 times faster than the iPhone eight.
The iPhone SE also comes with 5G and additions on the design end. Apple drew attention to the glass covering the front and back of the device, promising it to be the “toughest glass on a smartphone”. In addition, the new iPhone SE brings back the home button and a fingerprint sensor over the Face ID powering the newer models.
Cook summed up the new iPhone SE as bringing the advanced features and exceptional performance of the A15 to the most affordable iPhone. “It’s going to be great for existing iPhone users who want a highly capable and compact iPhone and for new users who want to experience the iPhone for the first time,” he said.
