Developers in India can now receive financial support for contributions on GitHub

GitHub Sponsors has been made available to all developers in India. Developers can now create GitHub Sponsors profiles and start receiving financial support for their contributions to open source. GitHub also revealed that the number of developers on GitHub in India is now more than 8 million, and India is the second-largest developer community on GitHub.

India’s developers have made over 200 million contributions to open source software projects in the last year. “Over 10 million software projects from around the world depend on packages created in India,” added GitHub.

The company said that users have already started receiving financial support, recognition from influential people in the open-source community, and GitHub Sponsors are even making it easier for them to secure internships and full-time positions. Through the GitHub Sponsors explore tool, it has become easier to discover projects and maintainers.
