Just days ago, it was reported that Ian Goodfellow, director of machine learning at Apple, is leaving the tech giant due to the company’s return-to-work policy. Now Bloomberg has reported that according to people familiar with this matter, Ian has accepted a position at DeepMind. DeepMind has yet to confirm this new development. Goodfellow is well-known for the invention of GANs.
DeepMind is Google’s unit focused on AI. Interestingly, this is not the first time Ian has worked for Google. Goodfellow joined Apple around three years back as the director of Machine Learning in the Special Projects Group.
The news of Ian leaving Apple due to Apple’s return-to-work policy was reported by The Verge’s Zoe Schiffer.
Apple had announced that employees have to return to the office on April 11. A memo shared by Tim Cook said that employees would be expected to work from the office at a minimum of one day a week by April 11. This will increase to two days every week at least by May 02 and a minimum of three days a week by May 23.
