Jet Airways is using IBM’s Integrated Emissions Management System to map its carbon emissions and optimize its fuel use by detailed analysis of each flight. Realizing this significant milestone as a part of the Strategic Outsourcing construct allows Jet Airways to use advanced analytics to map the carrier’s carbon emissions, optimizing its fuel usage by detailed analysis of each flight.
IBMs Integrated Emission Management System gives Jet Airways a process to analyze and calculate individual aircraft emissions, a complex process involving comparison of flight records and fuel usage data contained in multiple systems ranging from internal aircraft systems to regional navigation data and flight records. IBM’s IEMS allows Jet to compare flight records and fuel usage data contained in multiple systems ranging from internal aircraft systems to regional navigation data and flight records. The solution ensures that all flight emissions are properly calculated and reporting is accurate and timely.
“In FY 2011/12, domestic air traffic grew at a rate of 12.9%, creating a huge demand for fuel which accounts for a major expense for any airline. Creating an energy efficient airline is a top priority and we are committed to the environment and a greener world. With IBM’s solution, Jet Airways will be able to evaluate carbon footprint not only at the fleet level but also at the aircraft level. It will help us optimize the fuel usage and thereby create a positive impact on the environment,” said Sudheer Raghavan, Chief Commercial Officer, Jet Airways. “Two years ago, we engaged IBM to help us transform our core IT Infrastructure to keep pace with rapid business growth projections and add to our competitiveness in the marketplace. Since then, our relationship with IBM has grown from strength to strength, allowing us to save approximately $6 million per annum currently.”
“In order to take advantage of the strong growth potential in the Indian aviation market, it is critical for airlines such as Jet Airways to continuously transform through business and technology innovations. With its deep technology expertise, IBM has not only brought flexibility and scalability to the carrier’s operations but also helped Jet Airways gain competitive advantage and strengthen its leadership position. Not only does this ensure that Jet Airways has one of the most eco-friendly operations in the industry, it allows them to have better control and visibility into one of the largest costs a carrier has,” said Ramesh Narasimhan, Director – Client Servicing, Strategic Outsourcing, Global Technology Services, IBM, India/South Asia.
