Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur will soon have a Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence & Innovation-Driven Entrepreneurship (AIIDE) at its Noida outreach campus. The Uttar Pradesh state cabinet recently cleared a proposal to allow IIT Kanpur and FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry) to set up this centre, under the UP Start-up Policy 2020.
Abhay Karandikar, director of IIT Kanpur said, “While IIT-Kanpur will give the technological expertise and incubation support, FICCI India will provide industry tie-ups and business connect. Also under the Start-up Policy 2020, financial assistance will be given to start-ups.”
He said the centre would foster entrepreneurship. The ultimate goal is to offer guidance and mentorship to aspirants in establishing successful enterprises in the field of artificial intelligence.
The centre aims to provide assistance to 50 startups every year. In particular, it will focus majorly on sectors such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, internet of things, and augmented reality for development and promotion. By the end of five years, the centre has to promote 250 startups in all, and of these, the best 20, selected on the basis of viability, will be presented to investors.
