Uma Ratnam Krishnan

Uma Ratnam Krishnan is Managing Director – Optum India. In this role, she is responsible for country entity governance and setting the vision and strategic priorities for Optum India. She is accountable for operations delivery by the global teams for certain key capabilities and also works closely with Technology and Functions to support their business plans in India.

She oversees the integration of the acquired entities in the geography with particular focus on the people agenda across the geo. In addition, she is the point person for service delivery to Optum Insight across all the capabilities delivered by the global teams.

Uma has been part of United Health Group for the last 2.5 years and brings a rich and diverse experience, including global roles where she has contributed towards shaping and transforming organisations and businesses across geographies. Before joining Optum, Uma served as the CEO & MD of Barclays Bank Global Centre. She has many years of experience in finance and banking, having worked in senior leadership roles in Natwest in the UK, ANZ Grindlays Bank and HDFC Bank in India – conceptualising, providing strategy and vision, setting up and managing P&L businesses and initiatives, and working with large cross-functional and geographically diverse teams.

She has served as an independent director on the boards of various companies and mentored promising startups to scale. Uma started her working life as a diplomat with the Indian Foreign Service. Before starting her corporate career, she completed a master’s in Economics and an MBA in finance and marketing from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore. She has also completed a strategy course from the Wharton School of Business and a Leadership program from Harvard Business School.
