In the list of smart gadgets, smart suitcase is the newest addition. This product, Rover Speed pegged as the first and only robotic suitcase is developed by Chinese technology company COWAROBOT and is funded by a kickstarter campaign. The suitcase – which has already surpassed its Kickstarter goal of $30,000 in just a week – is set to be released to early buyers in January 2019. Even though the company claims this is the first smart luggage out in the market, there are similar AI-powered suitcases such as Travelmate, Floatii and Bluesmart. However, Rover Speed scores over other products in terms of functionality and mobility.
What Makes Rover Speed Smart
Rover Speed is reportedly the world’s first ‘smart-travel’ robotic suitcase powered by artificial intelligence. The suitcase is capable of following the owner without any need for physical contact or force. It can also recognise its owner and avoid obstacles in its path. It also comes with a TSA compliant smart lock and a power bank that can charge your mobile devices on the go.
Features
Connectivity: Rover Speed suitcase can be connected to a smartphone through an app that lets the user control it. It can send distance notifications so that one does not have to worry about losing your travel companion.

Compliance With TSA/FAA Regulations: The luggage measures 9 x 14 x 22 inches and complies with all the standard regulations worldwide. However, it requires all the spare lithium batteries to be removed from the bag and kept with the passenger in the aircraft cabin.
Capacity And Speed: The suitcase can carry a load of up to 24 lbs or 10 kilos and move at a speed of 4.5 miles per hour.
Battery: Rover Speed consists of an inbuilt battery that can be used to charge any mobile devices on the go. It is a removable lithium-ion battery that can be charged using a USB charger. It can charge up to 8 mobile phones and keeps the Rover Speed suitcase running for up to 12 miles.
Warranty: The Rover Speed comes with a 2-year warranty for the suitcase and offers 6 months warranty on the battery and a one year warranty for the main circuit board.
Outlook
There have been many attempts to make smart luggage before but it is Rover Speed’s high-end robotics functionality integrated with the suitcase that sets it apart from the competition. The suitcase’s ability to follow its owner and at the same time detect obstacles on its path makes it more intelligent than the ones that previously hit the market. With technology growing and expanding, we can expect more AI-powered luggage in the future with even more exciting features.
