MeitY To Set Up Center Of Excellence For Gaming & Animation In Hyderabad

A Centre of Excellence (CoE) focused on gaming along with animation and computer vision is proposed to be established at Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) facility in Hyderabad. The whole project is in a conceptual stage and is awaiting approvals to be implemented in collaboration with both industry and academia, STPI Director CVD Ram Prasad told a leading daily.

The proposed CoE, is also likely to be a 100-seater with investment likely over the five years on the facility to be ₹20 crore, said STPI Director.

The second edition of CII’s IoT-AI Summit recently conducted elaborated the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology plans on proposed COE. The new CoE will reportedly be set up to fulfil the inherent need for establishing the emerging sectors and building the next wave of budding entrepreneurs.

The proposed CoE on gaming and animation aims at providing structural and fundamental support with a right mix of awareness, training, hand holding, lab and incubation support etc in collaboration with suitable partners in various parts of the country. The CoEs will be set up in collaborative approach by STPI and shall act as single-window facilitation centres to extend requisite lab support, funding and mentoring. The CoE will have a dedicated chief mentor and eminent experts who would also act as brand ambassadors for CoE.

This will be the fourth CoE for emerging technologies that will be set up in India under the aegis of Meity after CoE for Virtual and Augmented Reality at Bhubaneswar and CoE for IoT and Electronics Products at Bengaluru along with the recently launched CoE for Data Analytics in New Delhi.

Releasing digital gaming segment to be an industry having estimated market value of US$ 110 billion, CII recently formed the Indian Digital Gaming Society (IDGS) to boost Digital Gaming Ecosystem in India.
