OpenAI has signalled that it will begin to charge for its flagship AI model ChatGPT, which can generate poems and computer codes with equal ease. On its official Discord server, OpenAI said it’s beginning to plan monetizing ChatGPT to ensure its long-term viability.
The monetized version will be called ChatGPT Professional. The company has posted a waitlist link on its Discord server along with a range of questions on the payment preferences.
The waitlist outlines ChatGPT Professional’s benefits, which include no unavailability window, no throttling and an unlimited number of messages with the chatbot. The research firm said those who fill out the waitlist form may be selected to pilot ChatGPT Professional, but the program is still in the experimental stages. It won’t be made widely available “at this time”.

On November 30, when OpenAI rolled out ChatGPT, it took less than a week for the chatbot to go viral. Moreover, reports of Microsoft investing $10 billion have been doing the rounds on the internet. However, the days of using ChatGPT for free may soon be over.
OpenAI clearly stated in the form that if selected, it will reach out to you to set up a payment process and a pilot. The company also declared that this is an early experimental program subject to change. Moreover, it is not making paid pro access generally available at this time. Therefore, the cost part is still unclear.
