Currently the executive director of the Boston Dynamics AI Institute, Marc Raibert focuses on advancing the convergence of AI and robotics. He stepped down as the CEO of Boston Dynamics in 2019 but continues to serve as the chairman of the company.
Raibert founded Boston Dynamics in 1992, which is renowned for creating highly advanced robots such as BigDog, Atlas, Spot, and Handle. Under his leadership, the company was acquired by Google in 2013, then by SoftBank in 2017, and finally by Hyundai Motor Group in 2020.
Raibert developed the first self-balancing hopping robots, a significant milestone in robotics. His work laid the foundation for more complex two- and four-legged systems. Under his leadership, Boston Dynamics developed robots that could gallop like a cheetah, negotiate challenging terrain, and perform tasks previously thought to be meant for science fiction.
He is a founding fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) and a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
