When Felix Kim was growing up in Los Angeles, he had a clear dream. He wanted to become an animation engineer at Pixar. But when his family moved back to South Korea, he realised that some opportunities were not equally accessible to everyone.

“Disney and Pixar simply didn’t hire from there. The dream didn’t fail on merit. It failed on geography,” recalls Kim, Founder and CEO of Redrob AI.

That early experience would eventually shape the idea behind Redrob AI, a career-focused artificial intelligence platform that aims to help students and professionals discover opportunities, build skills and navigate their careers. The name itself reflects the company’s mission—Redrob is ‘border’ spelt backwards.

For Kim, the goal is to ensure that where a person is born does not determine the opportunities they can access.

    Understanding India’s Opportunity Gap

Kim first arrived in India in 2018 to build a cross-border hiring platform connecting Indian engineers with employers in South Korea and the United States. While working closely with job seekers, he noticed a recurring pattern.

People were spending hours switching between multiple platforms. One website was used for job applications, another for resumes, a third for research and yet another for AI assistance.

“We were matching engineers to jobs, but those same people were stitching together five other tools just to manage their working lives,” he tells AIM.

The observation pushed the company beyond recruitment. What began as a hiring platform gradually evolved into an AI-powered ecosystem that combines job discovery, resume building, research tools, productivity features and career guidance under one roof.

According to him, the shift was driven less by business strategy and more by user behaviour.

“The matching business taught us the market. The users showed us the real product,” he adds.

    Building AI for Bharat

At a time when global AI platforms dominate conversations around artificial intelligence, Redrob AI is positioning itself differently. Instead of adapting a global product for India, the company says it is building specifically for Indian users from day one.

Kim believes language remains one of the biggest barriers to opportunity in the country.

“The next billion professionals here don’t work in English, and we keep handing them tools that assume they do,” he says.

To address this, the platform supports more than 30 Indian languages and is being trained on Indian educational content, regional datasets and local language patterns. The objective is to help users interact with AI in the language they are most comfortable with while receiving career recommendations that reflect local job market realities.

A general-purpose AI model may be able to explain global concepts, he argues, but it may not understand what a specific salary package means in Bengaluru or how hiring works in a particular Indian city.

    Making AI Accessible

While premium AI subscriptions often remain expensive for many users, Redrob AI is betting on affordability.

Kim notes that students at partner institutions in India receive free access to the platform, while paid plans cost around ₹350 per month. The company intentionally chose a subscription model rather than charging commissions for job placements.

“I never liked the idea of taking a cut of someone’s first salary,” he adds.

The company claims its lower pricing is possible by combining its own AI models with open-source technologies rather than relying entirely on expensive third-party systems.

    Betting on India’s Future Workforce

Redrob AI has raised around $10 million in Series A funding from investors including Korea Investment Partners and KB Investment and is currently raising additional capital. The startup says it has signed partnerships with nearly 100 universities across India and continues to expand its reach among students and young professionals.

The company also plans to launch a recruitment-focused language model trained specifically on Indian career and employment data.

Looking ahead, Kim’s vision extends beyond building another AI product.

“India has never been short on talent. What it’s been short on is access to the right opportunity, in the right language, at the right time,” he asserts.

As artificial intelligence increasingly shapes education and employment, startups such as Redrob AI are betting that the next wave of innovation will not simply be about creating smarter technology, but about making opportunity more accessible.
