The Drone Federation of India (DFI) in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the Adopt Drones program that has been designed to promote the adoption of AI-driven drone solutions. The program — Adopt Drones Program will recognise ML-based solutions by drone application developers to generate deep insights from the data collected using drones.

Considering, drones collect a massive amount of data, whether it be images or videos, which is then processed using software to derive informative business insights. To facilitate this, analysing these data is crucial; however, the current analytical processes are tedious and have lesser accuracy and efficiency. Therefore there was a requirement of using algorithms, advanced computing systems, and machine learning technology to generate more precise and actionable insights. This brought to light the Adopt Drones Program, which will run in six phases and focus on solutions for20 sectors, including agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, and rural development, stated by the official release.

The partnership of cloud service provider, AWS will assist drone application developers in technical reviewing of solutions for cost and performance optimisation. Further, it will enable developers to use the breadth and depth of AWS Cloud services to build, test and deploy their secure and scalable solutions on the cloud. This would also provide go-to-market support to help developers pitch the solution to large enterprises.

When asked about the partnership, Rahul Sharma, the president of the public sector, AISPL, AWS India and South Asia, stated that the Adopt Drones Program would be an exciting opportunity for drone application developers to experiment with AWS services in areas such as compute, analytics, and machine learning, and use available resources from AWS Partners to innovate.

According to Sharma, the launched program will enable participants of the drone ecosystem to collaborate, identify and develop use cases, build prototypes, and help create a better understanding of the role of drones in improving citizen services.

On the other hand, Smit Shah – Director of DFI stated that with this partnership, DFI is willing to transform the common usage of drones from a data acquisition tool to an end-to-end solution capable of acquiring data as well as generating deep insights for business to leverage. “This will enable regular usage of drones amongst large enterprises,” said Shah.

He further believes that this Adopt Drones Program shall be an inflexion point for the drone industry, as it intends to experiment, develop and promote drone solutions with large enterprises. “This program will create multiple business opportunities for solutions focused on creating actionable insights using drones,” concluded Shah.
