MeitY Startup Hub, an initiative launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has partnered with Google for a program called Appscale Academy to help a group of 100 Indian mid-stage startups build apps and games of high quality. The startups were shortlisted after a lengthy process that judged their product applications, product quality, scalability and innovation from among 400 applications.

This will commence the inaugural class for Appscale Academy, which was launched in October last year. The six-month-long training began as a way to promote startups in Tier II and Tier III cities. Of the entire batch, 35 per cent of startups belong to Tier II and Tier III cities, while 58 per cent of the startups have women in leadership roles.

Among these, there are 25 emerging startups from Karnataka, including live learning platform BitClass, agricultural apps like Farmyng Club and Sat2Farm, women healthcare apps like My Saheli, children’s learning platforms like Kutuki and Phonics Games and others.

“Our mission with Appscale Academy is to empower early to mid-stage startups with the right knowledge and mentorship to drive app and game innovations for the world. Our cohort of 100 Indian startups is ensuring that a homegrown solution for many of our daily, critical, and unique needs is today just an app away. Congratulations to all the startups, and thank you for being core drivers of India’s digital journey,” Jeet Vijay, the CEO of MeitY Startup Hub, said.
