IIT Kharagpur Offers AI/ML Summer Internships For Graduate Students

Users will have the opportunity to participate in real-world projects and receive guidance from professionals associated with IIT Kharagpur and IEEE.

IIT Kharagpur’s IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter (CS SBC), in partnership with the IEEE Kharagpur Section, has officially initiated the Summer Internship Programme 2025. According to reports, this programme provides an opportunity for aspiring technology professionals to acquire research and industry experience in advanced fields. 

The internship is entirely virtual, allowing students from all over India to participate in it remotely. This two-to-three-month internship is available to both undergraduate and postgraduate students (BTech, MTech, BSc, MSc, BCA, MCA, or equivalent).

It gives them the opportunity to participate in real-world projects and receive guidance from professionals associated with IIT Kharagpur and IEEE. The application deadline is June 21, 2025.

The internship tracks focus on some of the most dynamic and evolving areas in the tech ecosystem, including AI/ML-driven network management, cloud-edge computing & vehicular networking, machine learning & deep learning, generative AI and explainable AI  

Applicants are encouraged to have a foundational knowledge of programming, operating systems, database management systems (DBMS), engineering mathematics, computer networks, and machine learning using Python. However, advanced expertise in these areas is not required.

While the internship is unpaid, it offers e-certificates, project mentorship, and opportunities to connect with IIT Kharagpur faculty and IEEE professionals. Participants will develop key skills, complete portfolio projects, and gain references to boost their academic and career profiles.

The initiative aims to prepare future tech talent with practical experience in high-growth areas of science and engineering.

Similarly, IIT Kanpur launched a certification program on Python for AI, ML, and deep learning (DL). The program was held from December 1st to 27th, 2024, and was conducted online via Zoom. It was self-contained and included lecture sessions covering theoretical concepts, followed by intensive Python projects focused on the latest AI, ML, and DL technologies.

AIM has reported before that IIT Kanpur has become a major centre for deep tech startups. It emphasises innovation driven by products in areas such as AI, defence, and healthcare. Its incubation centre is currently fostering both local development and international growth.
