Amazon is in discussions to acquire AI startup Decart in a deal that could be valued at around $7 billion, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
San Francisco-based Decart develops software that allows developers to switch between different AI chips—a capability that is becoming increasingly important as technology companies compete for computing resources to train and run AI models.
Founded in 2023 by Israeli engineers Dean Leitersdorf, his brother Orian Leitersdorf, and Moshe Shalev, Decart has raised more than $400 million in venture capital funding from investors including Sequoia Capital, Benchmark and Radical Ventures, according to PitchBook data cited by WSJ. The startup was valued at nearly $4 billion in May 2026.
The potential acquisition would give Amazon access to Decart’s chip-compatibility technology as the cloud computing giant expands its own AI hardware business and competes with NVIDIA.
Amazon Web Services gave Decart early access to its Trainium3 AI chip in 2025 after meeting the startup’s founders, WSJ previously reported. Amazon has developed its Trainium processors as an alternative to NVIDIA’s AI chips.
Beyond chip software, Decart is developing world models called Lucy and Oasis, which can generate and simulate 3D real-world environments. They can be used to create interactive environments for AI applications, including robotics and autonomous systems.
AIM has reached out to Amazon for a comment.
The proposed deal follows Amazon’s other large acquisitions in recent years. The company bought MGM Studios for $6.5 billion in 2022 and announced a roughly $11 billion deal for Globalstar earlier in 2026.
Acquisition discussions are ongoing, and the company has not announced a final agreement, per the report.
