Anthropic will make its Claude family of AI models available with in-country inference in India through Amazon Bedrock in the coming weeks, allowing requests to be processed on servers located within the country.
The company said the move is aimed at organisations in regulated sectors that require greater control over where customer data is processed.
The announcement comes as Anthropic expands its operations in India following the opening of its Bengaluru office earlier this year. Alongside the infrastructure update, the company disclosed new enterprise deployments, startup partnerships, cybersecurity initiatives, and efforts to improve Claude's performance in Indian languages.
“Bringing Claude inference to India is a turning point for enterprise AI in this country,” said Irina Ghose, Managing Director of Anthropic India, on LinkedIn. “India’s banks, insurers, telecoms, public and government agencies steward the data of a billion people. When that data can stay in India, AI moves from pilots into the systems that matter most."
Sandeep Dutta, President of AWS India and South Asia, said the availability of Claude through Amazon Bedrock's India endpoint would allow organisations to deploy frontier AI on infrastructure already used for critical workloads. “Institutions from banks to government agencies are ready to harness frontier AI at scale,” he said.
Anthropic said enterprises including Axis Bank, NPCI, IndusInd Bank, and Godrej Industries are using Claude across engineering, knowledge management, and internal operations. It also highlighted adoption by technology services firms such as TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, L&T, and LTTS for software development, client delivery, and workforce training.
The company also outlined deployments across consumer internet firms and startups. Swiggy has integrated Claude with its MCP capabilities, while Instamart now allows customers to browse more than 40,000 products using natural language prompts. Other companies, including Invideo, Rocket, Atlan, Cred, Zamp.ai, and Freshworks, are using Claude for software development, data management, and enterprise workflows.
Anthropic said India recorded some of the highest registrations in its Claude Partner Network after the network's launch in March. This week, the company is conducting its first Claude Certification for Partners programme in Bengaluru, with plans to certify up to 5,000 people.
The company also highlighted research and public-sector projects built on Claude. These include work at the Indian Institute of Science on venom research, PopVax’s drug discovery platform, astrophysics research at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, legal tech initiatives by Agami and Civis, and Digital Green's FarmerChat platform. Anthropic said in-country inference would enable additional deployments involving sensitive personal data.
On cybersecurity, Anthropic said the Data Security Council of India is developing a Claude-powered AI testing sandbox for its members, while MOSIP and OpenG2P are using the model to strengthen the security of open-source digital infrastructure.
The company also affirmed that it is working to improve Claude’s performance across Indian languages as part of its commitments announced at the New Delhi Frontier AI Impact Commitments. Anthropic said that through its partnership with Bengaluru-based ethical AI data platform Karya, it has already evaluated Claude across seven Indian languages in agriculture-related use cases, and the work will be expanded to additional domains and languages.
