Coforge has appointed Akhil Gupta as the Chairperson and Non-Executive Independent Director of the company, effective September 29. His appointment will be for five years.
Gupta, the former Vice Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, currently chairs the boards of 360 ONE WAM and Bharti AXA Life Insurance. He also serves on the boards of Zepto, Snapdeal, Eutelsat Communications and Lodha Developers. A chartered accountant, Gupta has more than 40 years of professional experience and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 2002.
The appointment comes as Coforge expands its AI-led services business, with its AI strategy centred on generative AI, agentic AI and AI-enabled delivery.
Vivek Sharma, Non-Executive Independent Director and interim Chairperson, said the company conducted a global search for the position with executive search firm Egon Zehnder. The process began with 60 candidates before Gupta emerged as the unanimous choice of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee (NRC) and the board.
“We are very excited to onboard an exceptional candidate as the Chairperson of Coforge,” Sharma said. He added that the search focused on governance experience, professional expertise and strategic perspectives.
Sudhir Singh, CEO and Executive Director of Coforge, said Gupta had been instrumental in helping Bharti Enterprises navigate multiple business shifts and welcomed him as Coforge moves into what he described as an AI-led era.
“Gupta was instrumental in Bharti Enterprises successfully navigating multiple business shifts during his watch and association with Bharti Enterprises,” Singh said.
Coforge reported a 31% year-on-year increase in revenue to ₹3,986 crore in Q2 FY26, while profit after tax rose 86% to ₹376 crore. The company’s Q2 FY26 performance came as it continued to expand its business.
Gupta has received several industry awards, including the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the CA Lifetime Achievement Award and the CA Global Achiever Award from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). He has also served as President of the Telecom Sector Skill Council and former Chairman of the Digital Infrastructure Providers Association.
