Google Cloud has launched Gemini Enterprise for Legal, an AI platform designed for law firms and corporate legal departments, with tools for legal research, contract review, regulatory monitoring, document management and other workflows.
The platform is available in preview from August 26 and is part of Google Cloud’s new suite of industry-specific Gemini Enterprise solutions. Google Cloud said it also plans purpose-built solutions for healthcare, life sciences and other professional services.
It was developed with law firms and legal technology providers, with a focus on maintaining existing permissions, confidentiality controls, and governance requirements.
“Foundational model intelligence is necessary. For legal work, it is nowhere near sufficient,” Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, said. He said the platform combines domain-specific skills, connections to enterprise systems, agents and an open partner ecosystem, with governance across the system.
Gemini Enterprise for Legal includes reusable skills that can be configured for tasks such as contract review and redlining, legal research, regulatory horizon scanning, Data Subject Access Request (DSAR) fulfilment and playbook creation.
These skills can incorporate a firm’s own instructions, citation rules and house style.
The platform also connects with legal teams’ existing systems through secure MCP connectors. These connections preserve existing user permissions and access controls across document management, case repositories, research services and other applications.
Google Cloud said the platform can deploy pre-built agents for legal and policy research, regulatory screening and contract drafting. Its stated use cases also include tracking legislative and regulatory changes, compiling data for DSAR responses, reviewing agreements against enterprise playbooks, updating contracting playbooks, redacting sensitive information from court filings and drafting non-disclosure agreements.
The platform integrates with services including Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, iManage, NetDocuments, DocuSign, Everlaw and RelativityOne. It also connects with legal research and litigation resources such as Thomson Reuters HighQ, CourtListener and Courtroom5, along with legal AI platforms including Harvey, Solve Intelligence and Legora.
Google Cloud is also working with systems integrators and technology partners including Accenture, Deloitte, Devoteam, Factor Law, KPMG, Tribe.ai, Valtech, Zazmic, Zencore and 66degrees. Deloitte and Eudia are among the partners offering agents through the platform.
The company said Gemini Enterprise for Legal operates within a governed control plane that enforces security policies, maintains private data isolation and provides traceable citations for outputs. Google Cloud also said client data, firm-specific playbooks, intellectual property, custom agents and model outputs remain private to the organisation and are not used to train or fine-tune its foundation models.
The platform is being developed with law firms including Cleary Gottlieb, Freshfields, Weil and Williams & Connolly.
“Using Google’s Gemini Enterprise, which can slot in seamlessly with other daily work tools, we can unlock greater efficiencies for our teams and help them deliver even higher quality work for our clients,” said Jeff Karpf, Managing Partner at Cleary Gottlieb.
Freshfields Global Managing Partner Alan Mason said the opportunity is to combine Gemini Enterprise for Legal with the firm’s expertise, governance and institutional knowledge.
