The Indian Army’s Department of Military Affairs has selected CoRover to set up a sovereign AI-ML lab powered by BharatGPT, in a move aimed at strengthening India’s self-reliant AI capabilities for defence.
The lab will enable Army personnel to learn, build and deploy secure AI agents within a sovereign infrastructure framework.
The initiative will be built on CoRover’s human-centric Conversational AI platform. The lab is designed as a dedicated ecosystem for innovation, experimentation and skill development in artificial intelligence and machine learning. It will focus on national data security, scalability and operational self-reliance.
At the core of the lab is BharatGPT, CoRover’s indigenous language model, which supports multilingual, multimodal and multichannel interactions across text, voice and video. The platform’s agentic AI framework will allow Army personnel to create intelligent agents capable of reasoning, contextual understanding and task execution, while operating within secure and sovereign systems.
CoRover’s BharatGPT DeskAI Appliance, powered by NVIDIA, has seen strong demand following its launch and will underpin the infrastructure for the new lab. The system is intended to support the development of AI-driven solutions tailored to the Army’s operational, administrative, training and strategic requirements.
Through the collaboration, Army personnel will receive hands-on exposure to designing and deploying AI agents that can automate workflows, enhance decision-making, streamline communication and improve knowledge management. The lab is also expected to build internal AI capability within the forces, reducing dependence on external ecosystems.
Ankush Sabharwal, Founder and CEO of CoRover, said the partnership marks a pivotal step toward strengthening India’s self-reliance in AI for defence and strategic applications. He said the company’s multilingual and multimodal agentic AI platform is designed to help personnel innovate and deploy secure AI agents within a sovereign framework. CoRover maintains its commitment to delivering secure and mission-ready AI systems that augment human intelligence.
The platform has been built with military-grade security safeguards and a customizable architecture tailored to defence environments. CoRover said its approach ensures that AI augments human capability rather than replacing it.
The initiative is being positioned as part of India’s broader push towards an Aatmanirbhar Bharat in AI and defence technology. By combining full-stack sovereign AI infrastructure with conversational and agentic capabilities, the Indian Army aims to accelerate its digital transformation and strengthen strategic autonomy in emerging technologies.
