The Indian government has approved 29 new proposals under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), with a projected investment of ₹7,104 crore, as part of its ongoing push to strengthen India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem, according to an official Press Information Bureau (PIB) release.
The approvals, cleared by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), are expected to generate 14,246 direct jobs and production worth ₹84,515 crore. The projects span 16 product categories across sectors such as mobile manufacturing, telecom, consumer electronics, automotive, and IT hardware, the PIB statement said.
The newly approved proposals include components such as display modules, capacitors, resistors, lithium-ion cells, flexible PCBs, and inductors, along with key supply chain materials, including laminates, metallised films, and rare-earth permanent magnets.
Moreover, the approvals include India’s first facilities for tantalum-based SMD capacitors, flexible PCBs, and rare-earth permanent magnets.
Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasised the need for deeper domestic capabilities, stating that India must focus on “strong in-house design capabilities” and a “robust domestic supply chain” to capture greater value within the country. He also highlighted quality standards and workforce development as key priorities for the sector.
S Krishnan, Secretary at MeitY, noted that the scheme has seen a strong industry response and urged companies to match the government’s pace of approvals with faster implementation.
The fourth tranche of approvals takes the total investment under ECMS forward, with 29 proposals valued at ₹7,104 crore, reinforcing India’s strategy to reduce import dependence and strengthen local supply chains.
With these additions, the total number of approved applications under the scheme has reached 75, representing cumulative investments of ₹61,671 crore and an estimated 65,040 direct jobs, the PIB said.
“These approvals are expected to enhance domestic value addition by strengthening local supply chains, reducing dependence on imports of critical electronic components, and enabling the development of advanced manufacturing capabilities within India,” the statement said.
