India's electric vehicle ecosystem is deepening its use of digital engineering tools, with Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler manufacturer Simple Energy expanding its adoption of Siemens' cloud-based software suite to accelerate vehicle development, manage growing product complexity, and shorten time-to-market.
Siemens Digital Industries Software announced that Simple Energy has expanded its use of solutions from the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, including Teamcenter X for product lifecycle management (PLM) and Designcenter X for advanced vehicle engineering. The company is also leveraging Teamcenter X's advanced product configurator capabilities to manage complex vehicle variants and enterprise-level bills of materials (BOMs).
The move comes as Indian EV manufacturers increasingly invest in digital engineering infrastructure to support larger product portfolios, faster innovation cycles, and more sophisticated vehicle architectures.
Simple Energy said the expanded deployment will help its engineering teams manage complex assemblies, advanced surface design, electrical routing, and multiple vehicle configurations through a unified cloud-based environment.
"As our products scale in complexity, we're strengthening the systems behind how we build them. With Teamcenter X and Designcenter X, we're able to manage complex variants and large assemblies with greater speed and control—enabling us to accelerate development without compromising agility," said Kiran Poojary, chief technology officer at Simple Energy.
The company initially adopted Teamcenter X to create a centralised product data management backbone and improve collaboration across engineering teams. As its EV programmes matured, it expanded the platform to support enterprise BOM management and variant configuration through a "150 percent BOM" approach, which allows all possible components, options, and variants within a product family to be managed through a single master configuration.
Simple Energy has also replaced its legacy 3D computer-aided design (CAD) platform with Siemens' Designcenter X, which integrates with Teamcenter X and supports advanced vehicle engineering functions including large assembly management and 3D electrical routing.
Siemens said the deployment highlights how cloud-based engineering platforms are increasingly being used by emerging EV manufacturers to scale product development while maintaining flexibility and cost efficiency.
"Simple Energy's expansion of its Siemens software footprint demonstrates how customers can scale their digital foundation as product complexity increases," said Matthew Thomas, vice president and managing director for India, Siemens Digital Industries Software.
"Through close collaboration, we are supporting Simple Energy with a fully integrated vehicle engineering and lifecycle management digital thread that helps accelerate innovation and support its growth targets," he added.
The expanded adoption also allows Simple Energy to scale software usage through Siemens' value-based licensing model as the company grows its electric vehicle portfolio.
