Pharmaceutical company Merck has launched a new Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Bengaluru’s Electronic City, bringing together its India technology and services operations under a single integrated campus as it deepens its focus on AI, digital transformation and enterprise innovation, according to The Economic Times GCC World.
Spread across 17,000 square metres, the facility will house around 3,300 employees working across data, digital, process and technology functions. The campus has been designed to foster collaboration and innovation, with dedicated innovation labs, neurodiversity zones and collaborative workspaces.
The Bengaluru centre will serve as a key node in Merck’s global digital operating model, with teams developing and managing enterprise-wide solutions that support research and development, manufacturing, supply chains, commercial operations and business functions across geographies.
At the core of the centre is Merck’s Digital Enterprise Solutions (DES) organisation, which oversees process optimisation, enterprise platforms, data and AI, technology infrastructure, hyperautomation and process excellence.
“The Merck Global Capability Centre is much more than an operational hub–it is a strategic engine for our digital enterprise. By bringing data, technology and process teams under one roof here, we are strengthening the foundation needed to scale innovation faster, improve agility and deliver greater impact across Merck's global businesses,” Alessandro De Luca, Head of Digital Enterprise Solutions and Group CIO at Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, said in a statement.
The new campus also houses business technology teams supporting Merck’s Life Science, Healthcare and Electronics divisions, creating a cross-functional centre of excellence spanning AI, analytics, automation and enterprise technology.
The company said India is now its fourth-largest workforce hub after Germany, the United States and China. Building on nearly six decades of presence in the country since 1967, the new centre is expected to play an increasingly important role in driving the company’s next phase of innovation and digital capability development.
