OpenAI is hiring for the role of AI Deployment Engineer, Startups, in Bengaluru, according to a LinkedIn post by Arjun Gupta, Solution Architect for Startups at OpenAI India, who said the role involves working closely with startups to build and deploy generative AI applications
“This isn’t a typical role - you’re building real-world systems, working closely with founders, and shipping fast in high-ownership environments,” Gupta wrote.
The role involves partnering with startup customers to take AI products from ideation to production. The team is responsible for deploying generative AI applications and advising companies on use cases across industries.
OpenAI, in its career page, mentions that the AI Deployment Engineering team works with a range of customers, from early-stage startups to large enterprises, helping them build applications using its API while also collecting product and model feedback.
“We act as a trusted advisor and thought partner for our customers,” the company said in the role description, adding that the team helps drive use cases to production through technical guidance.
The position, based remotely in Bengaluru, requires candidates to work across functions including sales, solutions engineering, applied research and product teams. Responsibilities include prototyping, guiding application development, contributing to open-source resources and sharing best practices.
Candidates are expected to have at least five years of experience in software engineering or machine learning, with skills in Python and JavaScript. Experience in startups, particularly as founders or founding engineers, is preferred.
The company is also looking for candidates who can “own problems end-to-end” and identify ways to maximise business value using its API.
Referring to Bengaluru’s role in the hiring push, Gupta said, “Bengaluru is already one of the strongest startup ecosystems globally, and with AI at the core of every new product, this is a unique moment to build.”
OpenAI is also hiring for multiple roles in India, including Account Director for Digital Natives, AI Deployment Engineer, Consumer Marketing Manager, Growth roles, Product Partnerships Lead, and Solutions Engineer.
