Swiggy has introduced AI-driven ordering capabilities, allowing users to place food, grocery, and dining requests through chatbots such as ChatGPT, Claude, Google Gemini, and other AI agents.
The feature is powered by the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open-source framework developed by Anthropic that enables AI systems to connect with external services and live data sources.
Through MCP integration, AI assistants can directly interact with Swiggy’s platforms to execute tasks end-to-end.
According to Swiggy, users can issue natural-language prompts such as “Order ingredients needed for Thai green curry” or “Order a highly rated biryani,” with the system handling the entire workflow.
The integration spans Swiggy Food, Instamart, and Dineout, enabling restaurant and product discovery, option comparison, cart creation and updates, coupon application, address retrieval, order placement, and delivery tracking.
For Dineout, the system can also retrieve available reservation slots at restaurants and complete table bookings in a single prompt, including applying offers and confirming reservations.
Swiggy’s GitHub documentation indicates that the MCP servers support a wide range of features across its platforms.
For Swiggy Food, the integration enables restaurant discovery, menu browsing, cart management, and order placement with basic tracking support.
Instamart allows users to search products, analyse cart costs, and place grocery orders, while Dineout supports restaurant discovery, menu exploration, slot availability checks, and table reservations.
The documentation also highlights current limitations, including restricted third-party development access and support primarily for cash-on-delivery orders, suggesting that the integration is still at an early stage.
“By bringing MCP to quick commerce, food delivery, and dining out, we’re removing friction from daily decisions and enabling a level of ease, personalisation, and joy that makes on-demand convenience feel effortless,” said Madhusudhan Rao, CTO at Swiggy.
Swiggy also outlined how users can enable the integration with AI assistants such as Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT, Cursor, or other agents.
Users can navigate to the ‘Connectors’ section in settings menus on AI platforms, add a custom connector or app, assign it a name, and enter the relevant service URL.
Depending on the integration, the URLs include Instamart (https://mcp.swiggy.com/instamart), Dineout (https://mcp.swiggy.com/dineout), and Food (https://mcp.swiggy.com/food).
The company has published technical documentation and setup instructions in the public GitHub repository detailing supported features, workflows, authentication requirements, and configuration options.
Earlier, companies such as Zomato, Zepto and Zerodha, along with other consumer and fintech platforms, have also launched MCP-based integrations to enable AI-driven capabilities across their products.
