Tata Power, a power enterprise within the Tata Group, has collaborated with Databricks to accelerate its data and AI transformation across all sectors. The aim is to enhance operational efficiency, facilitate smarter decision-making, and enable scalable digital innovation.
Tata Power is looking to align with the energy transition through renewable integration, smart grids, and an expanding B2C portfolio. The company is developing a future-ready data and AI platform to enhance grid management, power planning, billing processes, renewable energy forecasting, and solar initiatives.
“The energy sector is undergoing a profound transformation, and data and AI are at the heart of that change. Together, Databricks and Tata Power are building a unified and scalable platform that brings together data, apps, analytics, and AI agents - enabling faster innovation and more resilient, data-driven energy systems,” said Nick Eayrs, Vice President of Field Engineering for Asia Pacific and Japan at Databricks, in a statement.
To realise this vision, Databricks will create a contemporary data foundation for the company that surpasses conventional warehouses and fragmented analytics systems.
“By leveraging the power of data and AI, we are strengthening our digital foundation to drive smarter operations, accelerate renewable integration, and deliver more agile, customer-centric solutions while contributing to a resilient and sustainable power sector,” Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD, Tata Power, said in a statement.
Built to handle data at scale and enable near-real-time insights, it will also facilitate advanced analytics, AI, and agents—all supported by the governance and security of the Databricks platform.
A significant aspect of this transformation is the integration of Genie, Databricks’ AI agent that allows any employee to interact with their data and receive reliable answers promptly.
Tata Power plans to unify enterprise data on the Databricks platform, facilitating self-service analytics, “talk-to-data” features, and democratising data and AI, enabling quicker, insight-driven decision-making.
Additionally, Tata Power will create a data infrastructure using the platform’s capabilities, backed by its internal Centre of Excellence and a strategic partner ecosystem.
