TCS to Deploy OpenAI Codex, Build 100 MW AI Data Infra in Partnership with OpenAI

Tata Group, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and OpenAI have announced a partnership to expand the deployment of artificial intelligence across enterprises, industries, and public-interest programmes in India and international markets.
The partnership covers enterprise productivity, industry-focused AI solutions, joint go-to-market programs, and the development of large-scale AI infrastructure in India.
Several thousand Tata Group employees will receive access to Enterprise ChatGPT to support internal productivity and innovation. TCS will use OpenAI’s Codex to improve software engineering throughput and code quality.
TCS and OpenAI will jointly develop industry-specific Agentic AI solutions to streamline operational workflows across sectors including manufacturing, banking, healthcare, retail, and telecommunications. These solutions are intended for direct deployment across client environments.
Under joint go-to-market initiatives, TCS will deploy, integrate, and scale OpenAI’s models and platforms for Indian and global enterprises. TCS will support customers across infrastructure, application, and intelligence layers of AI adoption.
The companies have also agreed to a multi-year collaboration to develop AI infrastructure in India through TCS’s HyperVault unit. The initial phase will establish 100 MW of AI-ready capacity, with an option to expand to 1 GW. Facilities will use green energy and support high-density, liquid-cooled compute workloads.
The OpenAI Foundation and TCS will run programs to provide AI training, learning resources, and technology toolkits to Indian youth and non-governmental organisations. The initiative aims to improve employment and income outcomes for at least one million young people.
“India is already leading the way in AI adoption, and with its talent, ambition, and strong government support, it is well placed to help shape its future,” said Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. “Through OpenAI for India and our partnership with the Tata Group, we’re working together to build the infrastructure, skills, and local partnerships needed to build AI with India, for India, and in India.”
N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, said, “This deep collaboration between OpenAI and the Tata Group marks a major milestone in India’s vision to become a global leader in AI. Together we will skill India’s youth and empower them to succeed in the AI era.”
The partnership positions TCS as a primary enterprise integrator for OpenAI technologies in India and supports India’s effort to expand domestic AI compute capacity and talent pipelines.
