Wipro has built an AI agent called iSkill to help employees find relevant learning and upskilling courses based on their roles, skills, and previous learning, as the company looks to make its learning and development function more personalised at scale.
The agent has recorded more than 7,500 conversations since its December 2025 launch and has more than 100 active unique learners. Wipro said 96% of AI Advanced+ courses at the Wipro AI Academy, its internal upskilling platform, were completed between January 2025 and March 2026.
Built inside Microsoft 365 Copilot, iSkill was launched in December last year and is available through Microsoft 365 Copilot and Teams. The agent sits on top of Wipro’s AI Academy, which was created three years ago to make more than 240,000 associates AI-ready.
Wipro’s AI Academy currently offers 144 persona-based learning paths and courses across AI and cloud, sourced from thousands of partner platforms. However, employees often struggled to identify where to begin.
“While there were plenty of learning paths, employees were not sure where to start,” Surya Prakash Mohapatra, General Manager and AI Learning Head – Talent Skilling, Wipro, said in a statement. “The experience was fragmented, dependent on search and reading through course descriptions. Only a small percentage asked for suggestions and adoption suffered.”
iSkill addresses this by acting as a conversational learning guide. It uses an employee’s role, band, function, skills, and completed AI and cloud certifications to recommend courses from the Academy’s catalogue, the company noted.
The system is built on Microsoft’s technology stack. Employees access the agent through their Wipro Teams identity, after which a Microsoft Fabric Data Agent pulls their profile from two internal datasets. A Power BI semantic model provides the relevant data, while the agent searches the SharePoint-hosted Academy catalogue to surface suitable courses.
Wipro has also built access controls into the system because iSkill uses employee learning and role data.
“There are two guardrails. Access is controlled at the door, and the data each person sees is controlled by who they are,” Mohapatra said.
Access is restricted through a validated security group, while role-based controls in the Power BI model prevent managers from viewing individual employee data. Managers can use the system to plan for a role without accessing an individual’s learning history.
“iSkill is a personal learning advocate, not a surveillance tool,” Mohapatra said.
The company also noted that employees have also reported that the recommendations help them identify learning priorities.
