Y Combinator (YC), a San Francisco-based startup accelerator, has announced that its Startup School programme will now be held in India. The initiative will bring together some of the country’s best builders and hackers to discuss the latest developments in technology and entrepreneurship.
“Best builders and hackers from across the country will convene to discuss the latest tech startups. This will be participated by leading figures from Razorpay, Meesho, Groww, and Emergent,” said Ankit Gupta, General Partner at Y Combinator.
Founded in 2005, YC has become a sought-after launchpad for entrepreneurs worldwide, having invested in more than 4,500 companies, including Airbnb, Dropbox, Stripe, Reddit, Meesho and Zepto. Since 2022, its standard deal has been to invest $500,000 in each selected startup.
YC runs four batches annually, winter, spring, summer and autumn, each lasting three months. The programme is designed to help startups accelerate growth regardless of their stage, from pre‑launch to already operating for over a year. The goal is to ensure that by the end of the cycle, startups have stronger products, more users, and better fundraising options.
Startups are divided into groups led by YC partners, with smaller sections of six to 10 companies to provide personalised guidance. The atmosphere is described as highly intense, with founders, alumni, investors and mentors all focused on helping startups succeed. Many participants consider the 11 weeks leading up to Demo Day as the most productive period of their entrepreneurial journey.
YC invests through two instruments: $125,000 for 7% equity on a post‑money safe, and $375,000 on an uncapped safe with a Most Favoured Nation clause.
With its arrival in India, YC aims to nurture the next generation of entrepreneurs by combining global expertise with the country’s fast‑growing startup ecosystem. The programme is expected to provide Indian founders with unparalleled access to mentorship, funding, and a global alumni network.
