15 Indian Govt Leaders Leading AI-Backed Public Sector Transformation
Abhishek Singh
Additional Secretary, MeitY · CEO, IndiaAI Mission (until April 2026) · DG, NIC

A 1995-batch IAS officer, Abhishek Singh has over 29 years of experience in governance and policy formulation. As Additional Secretary at MeitY and CEO of the IndiaAI Mission (until April 2026), he oversaw AI, emerging technologies, cyber security, and digital skilling.
Under his leadership, India’s GPU infrastructure scaled significantly—from 10,000 to over 38,000 units. He also guided the selection of 12 teams to develop Indian foundational models and 30 AI applications tailored to national use cases.
Emphasising his operational philosophy at the mission’s first anniversary, Singh said, “Today’s launch is a testimony of the direction regarding expediting implementation of programmes under the IndiaAI Mission. IndiaAI started as a small team. National Informatics Centre (NIC), International Innovation Corps, Wadhwani Foundation and others… all came forward and provided resources.”
He assumed additional charge as Director General of the NIC on April 21, 2025. In March this year, he was transferred to lead the National Testing Agency, with no formal successor yet announced for the role of IndiaAI Mission CEO.
