What artificial intelligence (AI) was from the late-90s until the last decade, Metaverse is for now. However, Metaverse is not just a buzzword anymore. With Facebook Inc. making it a milestone by changing its name to Meta and other tech companies too like NVIDIA are making bold statements about the parallel virtual universe. It is the internet’s next big thing.
Metaverse is nothing but the conglomeration of artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR) to bring into life a virtual ecosystem that can be accessed through the internet. And with new developments in the field of technology comes newer opportunities. Developers, engineers and innovators across the globe are working towards figuring out the right means and skill-sets to make it big in what Mark Zuckerberg calls the ‘New North Star.’

While Metaverse is still in its nascent stage, this intersection of AI, VR, gaming, blockchain, 5G, and augmented reality (AR) promises opportunities to help individuals find the land of their dreams.
Software Engineer (AR Platforms)
With the development of technologies that would change how the next-gen users connect and interact with each other, tech and gaming companies will be required to handle humongous amounts of data and information that would extend well beyond the web searches. For the same, companies would require Software Engineers with expertise in large-scale system design, networking and data storage, distributed computing, AI, information retrieval, natural language processing (NLP), UI design and others. These engineers would be required to work on Android Native, Android Java, FreeRTOS and Embedded Linux, among others.
At present, Google has an opening for Software Engineer, AR platforms, Netvrk has an opening for a Principal Software Engineer (Unreal Engine), and Stage11 has an opening for a Software Engineer (AR).
As a game designer for a company working in the Metaverse, one would be required to be at the forefront and massively indulge in prototyping, building, designing, and shipping VR-based games. Thus, they would be required to design end-to-end games while working with the Product, Design and Executive teams, provide real-time feedback and quickly resolve issues.
A game designer would be required to work with designers, product managers, content strategists, researchers, engineers and artists. At present, Facebook has an opening for a Game Designer to join its Horizon Team to build a social User Generated Content platform. Dapper Labs has an opening for a Game Design Director’s role.
With Metaverse, Non-Fungible Token, or NFT, has become a buzzword too. In the virtual world of Metaverse, NFTs work as portable, authenticatable digital property rights. Running on a blockchain network, NFTs cannot be exchanged and thus, are unique in their values. With many companies moving into innovative cryptoverse or NFTs, the need for NFT Strategists will be huge as well.
As an NFT strategist, one will be required to have deep knowledge in blockchain technology, creating NFT concepts and programmes to drive engagement. They would have to analyse industry trends to provide actionable strategic insights and opportunities. Additionally, they will have to create strategies to combine NFT concepts, gamification, tactical implementation, and designs to create engaging user experiences.
At present, The NFT Company is on the lookout for an NFT Strategist.
Blockchain engineers are individuals who help in the implementation and creation of digital blockchain for enterprises. They ideally have to work on blockchain platforms to design, implement, test, deploy, and manage software systems. They should have good knowledge of programming tools and an understanding of decentralised ecosystems. They would have to collaborate with software engineers and help them develop and deploy softwares.
Blockchain engineers should have experience scaling hybrid systems, contract deployment and maintenance, and some experience with architecture and design of blockchain solutions. At present, the NFT platform Autograph is looking for a blockchain engineer. Blockchain builder company Dapper Labs also has an opening for a Senior Blockchain Engineer.
Product managers working in a Metaverse company would be responsible for product marketing of social experiences in VR, enhancing the remote presence and expanding the human connections. They would be involved in the inbound phase of product marketing and strategy, informing the outbound marketing with internal partners. Their main focus would be understanding users’ points of view, gathering feedback, and seizing the right opportunities.
