Keeping up with the monthly list of top data science mentors, Analytics India Magazine is back again with another list for this month, July 2020, where we reveal the names of five experts from the industry who have made the cut. These experts are a significant part of the “AIM Mentoring Circle,” which is an extensive network of data science professionals.

Data scientists are increasing in demand, however becoming one requires a lot of effort, which is always a challenge for beginners looking to build a career in this field. And this is where a good mentorship comes into the picture. These mentors come from varied domains, and will not only help data scientists and beginners to enhance their skills but will also guide them through their journey.

Finding a good mentor is also a struggle in itself, and that’s why every month we come up with a mentor’s list for data science professionals to kick start their career. In this article, we are listing down five top data science mentors for this month that one can connect with through AIM Mentoring Circle.

Ankur Sharma, Head of Data Science & User Growth at Instamojo

Currently working as the head of data science and user growth at Instamojo, Ankur Sharma has over ten years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, and product management. At Instamojo, Ankur works on understanding the company’s customers and uses analytics to improve its product offering.

Prior to working with Instamojo, an on-demand payments and commerce platform for MSMEs, Ankur has led analytics teams at Capital One and Kiwi, Inc., a Sequoia-funded gaming startup. He also has experience in growth hacking for different domains including banking, mobile gaming, payments and small businesses. Ankur holds a BTech and MTech degrees in computer science and engineering from IIT Madras and has later gained expertise in data warehousing, business analysis, SQL analytics, data mining, data modelling, among others.

Rohan Mathew, Consultant – Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at Accenture

A data science and artificial intelligence enthusiast, with nine years of experience in analytics and industrial automation, Rohan Mathew is currently working at Accenture. Rohan has always believed in continuous learning and worked towards creating a positive change in society. In Accenture, Rohan works with analytics insights and provides solutions to Accenture global finance leadership. 

Prior to Accenture, Rohan has worked with Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions, where he led product analytics architecture, and implementation for industrial IoT products. Rohan has significant expertise in data analytics and artificial intelligence using Python, along with regression, classification, machine learning, and time-series forecasting. Alongside, he also domain expertise of industrial automation, IIOT, motion control systems, servo drives, PLC, variable frequency drives and their application.

Siddhartha Ghosh, Professor and Head of the Dept of AI at VJIT, Hyderabad

A BTech graduate from NIT Agartala, Siddhartha Ghosh is the professor and head of the department of artificial intelligence at VJIT, Hyderabad. Siddhartha also has an MTech degree in computer science engineering from the University of Hyderabad and a doctorate in artificial science from Osmania University, Hyderabad. Along with that, he has to his name about 55 national and international publications, with a total of 20 yrs of experience in academics and research. 

As a professor in Vidya Jyothi Institute of Technology, Siddhartha is heading the training and placement cell of VJIT and also teaches the computer science engineering department. Before his current role, Siddhartha has worked as a professor in the computer science and engineering department in Keshav Memorial Institute of Technology and GNITS.

Somya Rai, Risk Manager, Synchrony

Analytics professional, Somya Rai has approximately six years of sound delivery experience in analytics solutions. Working as a Risk Manager at Synchrony, Somya has a prime focus in credit, compliance and operational risk, accentuated with the healthcare domain. In her current role, she is handling risk management through collections performance optimisation and identifying opportunities for cost reduction without negatively impacting collection effectiveness. Somya has also formulated and implemented segmentation strategies, including statistical analysis and predictive modelling. 

Adroit with data science, machine learning techniques and tech delivery ecosystem, Somya has always been passionate for innovation, modelling, and intelligent automation. With a business analytics and intelligence degree from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, Somya is experienced in SQL, SAS, Python, advanced statistics, NLP, intelligent automation, cognitive automation, and Tableau. Before working with Synchrony, she has also worked with Bank of America as an assistant risk manager and EXL as a business analyst.

Tushita Chatterjee, Director, Global Advisory Solutions at Accion

Experienced professional with 12+ years of skill execution in analytics and risk management across the BFSI sector, Tushita Chatterjee works as a director of risk and credit analytics at Action Global Advisory Solutions. Tushita’s areas of expertise include developing credit risk models for consumer banking and SME; commercial risk modelling; model risk management and strategy; cross-sell and campaign management; regulatory reporting for retail and wholesale portfolios; portfolio management; and bureau services and related products. Along with these, Tushita is also experienced in multiple statistical techniques using traditional and machine learning algorithms.

Tushita has a deep technical understanding of multiple analytical platforms such as FICO model builder, SPSS, Angoss, SAS, R and Python, and has also worked on alternate data linked solutions. In her current role, she is handling risk management, credit and risk analytics, FSP consulting, financial inclusion, and driving and strengthening capabilities of advisory solutions. Before handling risk management for Accion, he was the associate VP in data and analytics with Equifax, where she was leading the analytics team for data-driven projects across India. Tushita holds a bachelor of science degree in statistics from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai as well as a master of science degree in statistics from Mumbai University.
