Anthropic on October 5 announced that Claude models, including Claude Opus 5, Sonnet 5 and Haiku 4.5, are now available with in-country inference in India through Amazon Bedrock.
The company said requests sent through the India endpoint are processed within India, giving organisations that require local processing an option to keep Claude inference within the country.
AWS said the India endpoint uses geographic cross-Region inference across its Mumbai and Hyderabad regions. Requests can be routed between the two regions, allowing Amazon Bedrock to use capacity across India while keeping inference within the country.
“In August, we committed to bringing Claude inference to India, and we are delivering on that promise. Our customers, especially in regulated sectors and government, want to use Claude on their most critical work, with requests processed in the country. From today, they can,” said Irina Ghose, Managing Director, India, Anthropic.
Anthropic said the capability is aimed particularly at financial institutions, government bodies and large enterprises with data-handling requirements. Claude deployments through Amazon Bedrock in India also include audit trails and access controls for risk and compliance teams, according to the company.
Anthropic added that Reliance, CRED and other customers tested the capability during a private preview. The company said customers cited local inference, alongside performance, resilience and regulatory requirements as factors in deploying Claude.
Sandeep Dutta, President of AWS India and South Asia, said data residency can determine whether AI deployments move from pilots into production in regulated industries. “With in-country inference for Claude now available through Amazon Bedrock, requests are processed on servers based in India, enabling banks, insurers, and public institutions to trust and deploy AI at a production scale,” Dutta said.
Anthropic said Claude is already being used across Indian banking, payments, IT services and digital businesses. The company said Tata Consultancy Services is rolling out Claude to 50,000 associates, while Infosys has established a dedicated Anthropic Center of Excellence.
The company also said the National Payments Corporation of India is building its AiNxt agentic AI platform with Claude. Reliance, Mahindra & Mahindra, Godrej Industries, CRED, Swiggy, Zomato, Freshworks and Invideo are also among the organisations Anthropic identified as Claude customers in India.
Anthropic opened its Bengaluru office in February and said its India team has continued to grow. The company also said Indian companies have joined its Claude Partner Network and that a partner certification programme held in Bengaluru in August certified up to 5,000 people.
The launch gives Indian organisations using Amazon Bedrock a geographic inference option that keeps Claude processing within AWS regions in India, while Anthropic said it will continue expanding its local team and partnerships.
