Amazon Web Services (AWS) has made OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-5.6 Luna models generally available on Amazon Bedrock in India, allowing organisations to run inference on AWS infrastructure within the country.
This availability gives businesses in sectors including financial services, healthcare, public sector and startups access to OpenAI models through Amazon Bedrock with in-country inferencing. AWS said this can help organisations use their existing security, governance and operational controls while deploying OpenAI models.
GPT-5.6 Terra is positioned for general-purpose enterprise workloads, while GPT-5.6 Luna is intended for high-volume and latency-sensitive tasks such as summarisation and classification.
The pricing also reflects OpenAI’s latest reductions. AWS said GPT-5.6 Luna now costs up to 80% less, while GPT-5.6 Terra costs up to 20% less, with the reduced pricing available through Amazon Bedrock.
“What we’re seeing in India is a shift from AI as experimentation to AI as operating leverage,” Nitin Bawankule, Head of Enterprise Sales, India, OpenAI, said.
“Businesses want models that can help teams write better software, work through complex information, and make higher-quality decisions in the flow of work. For many organisations in India, especially in regulated sectors, local inferencing is a key part of adopting AI with confidence,” he added.
Amazon Bedrock also allows customers to access OpenAI models alongside other foundation models through a single API. This means organisations can select different models for different workloads without changing their infrastructure or development workflow.
“India’s enterprises are moving rapidly from AI experimentation to production-scale deployment, and they need frontier intelligence that runs where their data already lives,” Satinder Pal Singh, Director of Solution Architecture for India and South Asia at AWS, said.
The models can be used for software development, data analysis, agent workflows and production inference. AWS also highlighted applications in regulated workflows, including KYC verification, regulatory filings and document processing.
GPT-5.6 Luna can also be used for high-volume customer applications such as chatbots, voice assistants and support systems, where the cost of each interaction becomes significant at scale.
For engineering teams, GPT-5.6 Terra can be used for code generation, review and testing across large codebases. Organisations in financial services, healthcare and the public sector can also use the models to analyse sensitive data, generate forecasts and process unstructured records.
AWS said calls to the OpenAI models on Amazon Bedrock are covered by the security, governance and operational controls available across its cloud infrastructure.
