AI startup Anthropic is on pace to generate $10.9 billion in revenue during the second quarter of 2026, more than doubling its first-quarter sales and potentially marking the company’s first profitable quarter, WSJ reported.
The projected revenue surge comes as demand for Anthropic’s Claude family of AI models accelerates across enterprise, developer, and consumer markets.
The report added that the company generated $4.8 billion in revenue during the first quarter, taking total revenue for 2026 to $10 billion.
If achieved, the second-quarter figure would exceed Anthropic’s total revenue for all of last year, underscoring the blistering pace at which the AI market is expanding.
The company’s growth has been accompanied by a sharp increase in infrastructure demand. To address that demand, Anthropic recently signed a major infrastructure agreement with SpaceX to utilise the full compute capacity of the Colossus 1 data centre in Memphis, Tennessee. Under the agreement, Anthropic will reportedly pay SpaceX $1.25 billion per month through May 2029, according to SpaceX’s S-1 IPO filing/prospectus.
Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI researchers and executives, Anthropic has emerged as one of the strongest challengers in the generative AI race. The company is best known for its Claude models and coding-focused products such as Claude Code, which have gained traction among enterprises and developers.
Anthropic’s rapid growth has also intensified investor interest. The company is reportedly in discussions to raise fresh funding at a valuation of about $900 billion, placing it among the world’s most valuable private technology firms.
Anthropic recently launched Claude Mythos Preview, a model with advanced cybersecurity capabilities, months after tensions between the company and the US Defence Department became public.
Despite its momentum, Anthropic faces intensifying competition from OpenAI, which private investors reportedly value at more than $850 billion.
OpenAI is confidentially preparing to file draft IPO paperwork in the coming weeks and could go public as early as September, while Anthropic is also reportedly exploring an IPO in 2026.
