ASML has started operations in India and plans to initially hire 20–30 engineering graduates, according to a PTI report.
Lin Kiat Yap, ASML Executive Vice President and Head of Customer Support, told PTI that the company's plans to scale its India operations would depend on Tata Electronics' progress and India's semiconductor ambitions.
ASML's India expansion is linked to its partnership with Tata Electronics for the latter's planned 300 mm semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat. ASML said in May that it would support the establishment and ramp-up of the facility through lithography tools and solutions, local talent development, supply-chain initiatives, and research infrastructure.
During SEMICON India 2026, ASML Chief Strategic Sourcing and Procurement Officer Allan Wayne told PTI that Tata Electronics is the company's first customer in India with a 300 mm semiconductor fab, with planned production capacity of 50,000 wafers per month.
Tata Electronics also lists the same planned monthly capacity for its Dholera facility, which is designed to produce analog and logic integrated circuits using 28–110 nm technologies.
Tata Electronics is developing the Dholera fab with a planned investment of ₹91,000 crore ($11 billion). ASML said the facility will be India's first commercial 300-millimetre semiconductor fab and will serve applications including automotive, mobile devices, and artificial intelligence.
The facility is scheduled to begin operations in 2028, according to PTI. The Union Cabinet's Semicon 2.0 announcement in July also said the first fab was scheduled to be commissioned in 2028.
The government has approved a total budget outlay of ₹1,27,500 crore for Semicon 2.0. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said investment proposals worth$12 billion are likely to come under the new scheme for chip production.
ASML's initial India operations come as Tata Electronics moves toward commissioning its Dholera fab and the government seeks to expand semiconductor manufacturing and related capabilities in the country.
