Independent insurance and reinsurance broker BMS has launched a global capability centre (GCC) in Mumbai as part of its strategy to expand data, analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities across its global operations.
The new centre will support BMS teams worldwide across broking operations, data analytics, technology, client services, and operational functions. The GCC is expected to play a central role in the company’s long-term operating model by strengthening access to specialised talent, AI expertise, and technology capabilities in India.
The facility will be led by Nipun Mapara, who has been appointed Managing Director of the GCC, while Sanjeev Poojari will serve as Head of Operations.
The move comes as BMS accelerates investments in data infrastructure and AI technologies, including the deploying of AI-powered tools across broking and operational functions. The company said the Mumbai centre will provide the specialist expertise required to scale these initiatives globally.
BMS was supported by EY in designing and establishing the centre, including advising on feasibility, operational structure, and talent requirements.
The GCC also complements BMS’s broader India strategy, following its recently announced strategic partnership with Berns Brett India (BBI). Together, the investments aim to strengthen the company’s geographical footprint, diversifying operations, and supporting long-term growth.
Commenting on the launch, Nick Cook, Group CEO of BMS, said, “The opening of our GCC in Mumbai is more than an operational milestone. It is a platform for building the data and AI capability that will help BMS serve clients better and compete more effectively. India has extraordinary professional talent, and we are committed to making the BMS India GCC a genuine centre of excellence for the group, not just a support function.”
The company said the centre is already operational and contributing across multiple business functions.
Nipun Mapara, Managing Director of the GCC, said, “We are already operational and contributing across multiple workstreams, from broking support and client services to analytics and technology. The team here understands that what we build in Mumbai directly impacts how BMS performs globally. That sense of purpose is energising, and we are ready to go.”
Highlighting the broader industry trend, Benedict Reid, EY UK Commercial and Specialty Insurance Leader, said, “Brokers are reimagining their operating models to bring advanced AI analytics and specialist talent closer to the heart of their business.”
