AI app-building startup Emergent is in advanced talks to raise $250 million from private equity firm Creaegis and other investors, in a deal that could value the company at around $1.5 billion, a nearly fivefold jump from its last known valuation of $300 million, according to a Moneycontrol report.
The negotiations are ongoing, and the final contours of the round, including valuation and investor participation, may still change, according to the report. The proposed fundraiser, if completed, would mark one of the largest capital infusions into a new-age AI startup from India and signal strong investor appetite for “vibe coding” platforms.
“The negotiations are underway and still in the early stages. Creaegis may even opt to lead the round by writing a large cheque individually, and other existing backers of Emergent will put in the remaining amount on a pro rata basis,” people familiar with the matter told the media agency.
Emergent’s sharp valuation jump would come on the back of blistering growth. The company, which enables users to build full-stack applications via prompts, has seen rapid global adoption. It previously raised $70 million in a round led by Khosla Ventures and SoftBank at a valuation of about $300 million.
Previously, AIM reported that Emergent had crossed $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) within just eight months of launch, highlighting the speed at which AI-native companies are scaling. The platform allows users to design, build, test and deploy applications using AI agents, reducing the need for traditional coding expertise.
However, the startup’s rapid rise has also sparked broader debate around how ARR is measured in AI businesses. Unlike traditional SaaS models based on fixed subscriptions, AI companies often generate revenue through usage, such as tokens or queries, leading some investors to question whether ARR reflects predictable income or simply “annualised run rate combining subscription and usage.”
