Figma has announced new AI-powered tools for coding, content management and deployment. The updates aim to help designers, developers and product teams build and ship software from a shared workspace.
The announcements, made at Config India 2026 in Bengaluru, extend Figma’s platform beyond collaborative design into more stages of software development. The company introduced code layers, Figma Specs, centralised design system management, and Payload integration.
These features aim to help teams move from prototypes to production while keeping design, code, and content in one place.
Speaking at the media briefing, Figma Chief Design Officer Loredana Crisan said the company would not package the new products individually.
On whether the expansion into coding, hosting, and deployment would change Figma’s pricing, Figma Chief Design Officer Loredana Crisan told AIM that the company viewed the launches as an extension of its existing tools.
“None of the products that we talked about are packaged individually,” she said. She added that several features use Figma’s AI capabilities to generate what users want to build.
“We see this as expanding the tool set the designers need on the canvas,” Crisan said, speaking at a media briefing.
However, CEO Dylan Field said Figma would not absorb hosting costs for products that generate extremely high traffic.
He clarified that hosting costs could depend on the scale of a product’s traffic. “If you’re hosting something and you’re getting mega traffic, we’re not gonna take the bill for that,” he told AIM.
He added that Figma wanted to give teams ways to manage content at scale. However, he did not specify pricing tiers, traffic thresholds, or how hosting charges would work.
The new tools reflect Figma’s push to bring design and software development closer together as AI coding agents make building applications easier. The company said teams could use code layers to create and edit code-backed prototypes directly on its collaborative canvas.
Users can create these layers from existing Figma designs, GitHub repositories, or external coding agents through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Figma also announced 20 new MCP partners, including Grok Bot, Open Code, and Sarvam AI.
Figma Specs, a new Markdown editor to format text, will help teams document product requirements, research, and implementation details alongside their designs. The company is also introducing a centralised space to manage design libraries, code libraries, and guidelines that AI agents can follow.
Figma is also integrating Payload, an open-source backend framework and content management system it acquired last year, into its AI-powered tool Figma Make.
The integration will allow teams to build and deploy websites and internal tools using real content and data. Marketers can update content through an administrative panel, while developers can customise applications using Payload’s framework.
According to Figma, Payload downloads have grown sixfold over the past 12 months. The company said the integration would let teams build, deploy, and manage content in the same environment.
The product updates follow the general availability launch of the Figma agent earlier this month. Figma said the new features would roll out over the coming weeks, with availability varying by product. India is Figma’s second-largest active user market globally, according to the company.
